SBCTC statement on California's new High Speed Rail plan

March 9, 2018 - State Building and Construction Trades Council President Robbie Hunter released today the following statement on the California High Speed Rail Authority's news business plan:

“Brian Kelly is a transportation professional. He has run big projects for a big agency for 18 years. There is nobody more qualified to drive this project that is crucial to the economic and environmental future of our state.

“Right now, the High Speed Rail project employs 1,700 construction workers in one of the most economically challenged areas of the state. This project will help solve the state’s housing crisis by enabling thousands of Central Valley commuters to work in the Silicon Valley job market.

“We now have a new plan with the right man in the right place at the right time for the right job. This project is critical to handle a California population that is growing towards 50 million. Brian Kelly understands we can only meet tomorrow’s infrastructure needs by building these projects today.”
