S.F. Chronicle hears from us on prevailing wage

Aug. 2, 2017 - Northern California’s largest newspaper ran a Letter to the Editor today from State Building and Construction Trades Council President Robbie Hunter that took to task one of the paper’s recent editorials.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s July 16 editorial said that the prevailing wage would “hamper” a bill to streamline low-income housing construction that is now pending in the Legislature. We disagreed – and then some.

“The prevailing wage is more than what The Chronicle described in its editorial as a ‘worthy goal,’” Hunter wrote. “It is a necessity for the 400,000 blue-collar workers and their families that we represent, if we care about them staying in the middle class.”
