Historic PLA for Ventura County Hospital Will Be a First in the Tri-County Area
January 30, 2012 - $280 Million Project Bringing Hundreds of Jobs! The Tri Counties Building and Construction Trades Council made history this week when the Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted to direct county staff to negotiate a PLA for the Ventura County Hospital project. Upon successful negotiations and final approval, it will be the first PLA in the history of the tri-counties (Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo) area.
The $280 million project is expected to generate up to 500 good construction jobs over the next four years. Supervisors Kathy Long, Steve Bennett, Linda Parks and John Zaragoza voted in favor of the PLA, while Peter Foy voted against it.
The victory occurred in a board room filled with 125 Building Trades members. Also in support were Central Coast Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), the UCLA Construction Academy, apprentices, and contractors. ABC and Eric Christen argued in opposition.
