Study Shows Union Sector Far Safer

May 7, 2003 - A study just released in Cockshaw's Construction Labor News & Opinion (April,2003), showed that non-union contractors were 360 percent more unsafe than union contractors.

Comparing a 42-month period from 1998 to 2001, OSHA statistics showed 758 OSHA violations in the non-union sector versus 162 OSHA violations in the union sector.  The study refuted claims by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) that open shop job sites see fewer serious accidents than union sites.
