We hope you will continue to utilize them with organized labor and blue collar populations.

Major Player In The Fight Against Tobacco

The American Lung Association announced the results of a new study. Its conclusion?

"If the other 49 states had followed California, 300,000 would not have died"

A major component of California's success story in its battle against tobacco use is BUILT, Building Trades Unions Ignite Less Tobacco. This five-year program was launched in 1999 to provide statewide outreach to workers and their Unions to combat tobacco use.

Not only does BUILT provide resources on prevention and cessation of tobacco use, it educates and promotes knowledge and the creation of smoke-free environments. Construction workers are exposed more often than any other workers to toxic chemicals that interact with smoking. Smoking combined with asbestos exposure increase cancer risk 50-80 times.

Our members work hard and we all know that tobacco use shortens life spans. Retirement plans don't mean much if you don't live long enough to enjoy it. The good news is that BUILT and other programs are producing results.

The BUILT program is your program. Join us to make tobacco cessation as high a priority as all of our job site safety programs.
